Uses
This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions, such as:
- Insect bites
- Poison oak/ivy
- Eczema
- Dermatitis
- Allergies
- Rash
- Itching of the outer female genitals
- Anal itching
- Hemorrhoids (pain, swelling, bleeding, itchiness)
Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions.

Dosage
Follow these dosage instructions:
- Child 12 years and over and adult
100 mg to 500 mg intravenously or intramuscularly every 2 to 6 hours, depending on the severity of the condition.
- Child one month to 11 years
1 to 5 mg/kg intravenously or intramuscularly every 6 hours, adjusted according to clinical response and condition severity.

In case of Overdose
In case of an overdose of Hydrocortisone Sodium Succinate, symptoms may include fluid retention, hypertension, hyperglycemia, electrolyte imbalances, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as peptic ulcers. Prolonged overdose can lead to suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, causing adrenal insufficiency. Immediate treatment involves discontinuing the drug or reducing the dosage, managing electrolyte imbalances, and providing symptomatic care. In severe cases, supportive measures such as fluid and electrolyte replacement may be required.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don’t remember missing the dose, don’t double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

How To Use
Hydrocortisone injection comes as powder to be mixed with liquid to be injected intramuscularly (into a muscle) or intravenously (into a vein). Your dosing schedule will depend on your condition and on how you respond to treatment.

When Not to Use
Hydrocortisone is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the product or any of its constituent ingredients, patients with tuberculosis or fungal infection and/or herpes infections of the eyes, lips, or genitals.

- Feeling dizzy, weak, or tired
- Headaches
- Muscle ache
- Indigestion or feeling sick (nausea)
- Diarrhoea

Precautions & Warnings
Before using this medicine, make sure to follow these precautions:
- In case of a systemic infection, only use the medicine if the patient is already receiving antimicrobial treatment.
- Avoid using the medicine for an extended period in patients with Peptic ulcer, Diabetes mellitus (diabetes), Cirrhosis
- It is safe to use this medicine during pregnancy.
- It is safe to use this medicine while breastfeeding.

Drug Interactions
Some products that may interact with this drug are:
- Aldesleukin
- Mifepristone
- Other drugs that can cause bleeding/bruising (such as antiplatelet drugs like clopidogrel, NSAIDs like ibuprofen/naproxen, and “blood thinners” like warfarin/dabigatran).
Aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding when used with this medication.
